Community Case Management (CCM) Essentials provides guidance to PVO/NGO and MOH program managers
for the design, implementation, and monitoring of community case management through non-governmental,
public sector, or combined approaches. CCM Essentials is a collaborative effort led by a
Steering Committee composed of CORE Group, Save the Children, and BASICS.
Over the past decade, 18 CORE member organizations have worked with Ministries of Health,
USAID, and community-based partners to implement CCM programs in more than 27 countries (see map).
Many of these efforts represent long-term investments in developing community-level systems for
health service delivery. CCM Essentials draws its insights from CORE member
organizations’ experiences, as well as those of Ministries of Health and USAID contracting agencies.
While written primarily to inform program design and management efforts of district-level NGOs
and MOH managers, the guide situates these activities in national efforts to expand access to
high quality treatment for life-threatening childhood illnesses.
Additional resources including program planning tools, job aids, and training materials can be accessed through the
CCM Toolkit.
The "Resource" links below will also take you to the Toolkit page.
Field-testing partners are encouraged to submit materials to share with other public health professionals who seek to expand access
to treatment in their program areas through CCM strategies. Collaboration and sharing across
agencies is a critical step toward increasing the quality and sophistication of CCM programming
among CORE Group member organizations and partners around the world.
Field-Testing
Selected chapters from CCM Essentials are now available for field-testing
by CORE member organizations and other interested parties. The chapters listed below are available for field-testing.
More chapters will be added as they become available. Each chapter is accompanied by a unique set of questions
for field-testers.
Two levels of testing are possible:
- Field-testing using chapters that correspond to the project’s phase of implementation.
If you are currently designing or implementing CCM programs, please use the chapter(s)
relevant to your programming at this time.
- Technical review by field-based staff with expertise in community case management programs.
If you have been working with CCM strategies for some time, we would appreciate your insights on the chapters.
Testing and review by field programs and field-based experts is a crucial step in the guide’s development.
Feedback from CCM program managers, M&E staff, technical backstops, and other PVO and program staff will ensure
that the guide provides a practical roadmap for CCM program design, implementation, and evaluation.
If you or your organization would like to provide input on any of the draft chapters, please email CORE with the following information: PVO name, program location, contact person's name and email, and the specific chapter(s) your team plans to review.
Feedback
Field-testing partners and reviewers are encouraged to respond to the questions provided with each chapter. Formal written feedback is requested by February 2009. Please submit feedback by email.
Next Steps
Feedback from field-testing partners and field-based reviewers will be incorporated into the guide during Spring 2009,
followed by review and editing by a consultant with expertise in instructional design.
Content will be finalized shortly thereafter.
