Is your organization trying to figure out how to get involved in mHealth?
Get started in mHealth with free phones, and technical support to boot!
CORE Group and Dimagi are offering a simple way to start building mHealth experience and capacity.
With generous funding from the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation through a grant from the Innovation Working Group to support maternal, newborn, and child mobile health programs, a new grant opportunity is available. Dimagi and CORE Group are pleased to announce a learning collaborative designed to help organizations to develop, implement, and evaluate the CommCare mHealth tool in low or middle income countries. This activity will not only give organizations a chance to test out a specific tool within the context of a specific project or program—but will also build mhealth capacity in a larger sense.
Five winning organizations will be selected to customize and deploy a CommCare software application that meets the needs of a community health program. Participating organizations will also have the opportunity to leverage the integration between CommCare and the MOTECH platform (via Grameen Foundation) to manage patient information and implement voice- and text- based messaging directly to end users.
Applications will be scored based on the criteria outlined in the full RFA. Five winners will receive: free remote technical support from Dimagi, CORE Group, Grameen Foundation, Maternal Concept Lab, and the World Health Organization for one year, as well as a startup package including 10 phones and up to $500 USD for project expenses to support airtime, chargers, local travel, and other implementation needs.
Interested organizations are invited to complete our short application by April 20, 2012. Applicants must be a CORE Group Member or Associate Organization, with a specific project or program identified to implement the effort. An on-site point person must be named, who has time and enthusiasm to oversee the effort. Applicants must also be willing to participate by phone or online in a learning collaborative, where the winners will share experiences and insights. Finally, participants will need to submit a brief narrative report (including photos and direct quotes), following a simple template.
The timeline is as follows:
April 6, 2012: Any questions on RFA should be submitted by email.
April 20, 2012: Applications due.
May 2, 2012: Winners announced at CORE Group spring meeting
May 2, 2012-April 30, 2013: Collaboration and technical support to deploy CommCare.
Coordination among the five participating organizations will be facilitated through quarterly conference calls. We will seek to foster a common evaluation framework and shared indicators across the CommCare learning collaborative.
