KPC Field-Based Mentoring Program

The M&E Working Group is proud to begin offering a KPC Field Based Mentoring Program for members of the CORE Group. The program is designed to allow members involved in M&E for their organizations obtain hands-on field experience. This experience will be provided by a willing, experienced CORE colleague ("host") who is performing a survey for their organization.

The criteria required for both the participant and host are as follows:

Participant

  1. Must be prepared: The mentoring opportunity is intended for members who already have a working knowledge of the relevant survey and/or methodology and would benefit from the hands-on experience with a colleague. This opportunity is not intended to take the place of a beginner's workshop. Therefore, reading through the KPC materials on-line (especially KPC field guide, training guide, and Survey Training Curriculum (December 2004) are an essential prerequisite for all participants. In addition, if the methodology is LQAS, participants should read the LQAS manuals on line.
  2. Must be willing and able to stay for the entire length of the survey in order to be involved with the pre/post survey activities in order to have a full understanding of the planning of a survey and the use of the data in project design.
  3. Must be willing to help in any way necessary in order to be an asset to the survey team and host organization.
  4. The participant's organization is responsible for all costs associated with the participant being involved with the survey (flight, lodging, food, etc.)
  5. The participant must agree to abide by the rules/regulations of the host organization.

Host

  1. The host must be qualified and experienced in the type of survey and methodology in which s/he is training the participant.
  2. The host must be fully prepared to train the participant in all aspects of the survey including planning a proper survey, methodology, use of the data in project design and all other affiliated areas of monitoring and evaluation.
  3. The host must be willing to share all resources (project design documents, survey questionnaire, training plans, scheduling resources, etc.) and results (data, final report, etc.) with the participant.
  4. The host must be willing to involve the participant in all applicable aspects of the survey.

Please feel free to go to the KPC Field-Based Mentoring Program Listing to either add your posting if you are willing to host, or to look for opportunities if you are a participant. Potential participants should e-mail the host expressing their interest.

While the M&E Working Group and CORE Group will attempt to ensure that hosts are qualified and that participants are prepared for the survey and willing to assist the host in all aspects of the survey, it is ultimately the responsibility of the colleagues involved in this cooperative program and their respective organizations to ensure that this is a valuable experience for those involved.
