Elluminate Session on HIV and Infant Feeding Offered
On September 8, the CORE Group will offer an online Elluminate presentation on what we know and don't know about infant feeding within the context of PMTCT. PATH's Ted Greiner will examine the evidence base regarding the infant feeding component of PMTCT programs and suggest the existing research is of doubtful relevance to most settings in Africa, where most of the world's maternal-to-child transmission takes place.
Participants can log in to Elluminate from anywhere in the world. For more information on the Elluminate system and/or to sign up for this session, please visit CORE's meeting registration page:

Featured Resources: Millennium Development Goals
In advance of the 2005 UN World Summit, to be held in New York September 14-16, this month we highlight two resources related to the Millennium Development Goals:
Who's got the power? Transforming health systems for women and children
This 2005 paper from the Task Force for Child Health and Maternal Health, UN Millennium Project, posits that sustainable progress toward decreasing child and maternal mortality requires an intense focus on improving health systems, particularly at the district level. The authors recommend the rapid and equitable sale-up of child health interventions designed to improve key family practices within the community, with increased emphasis on nutrition and neonatal health; the universal provision of emergency obstetric care with skilled birth attendants at facility and community levels as the backbone of the system; and universal access to reproductive health services.

Investing in Development: A Practical Plan to Achieve the Millennium Development Goals
Also by the UN Millennium Project, this paper presents an operational framework for achieving the Millennium Development Goals, outlining practical investment strategies and approaches to financing them.
