CORE Group Spring Meeting To Focus on "Quality"
The CORE Group will hold its annual Spring Meeting April 24-28, 2006, in Easton, MD. CORE members and partners will gather to discuss methodologies and strategies for improving quality of global child health programs; exchange technical information; and explore partnerships across organizations. Registration will open on the CORE Group web site after February 1. Please check the link below for registration and a draft agenda, which will be posted in late February.

CORE Workshop Registration

LQAS Lecture Series Offered Online
In response to demand from nongovernmental organizations implementing child survival projects, the CORE Monitoring and Evaluation Working Group will offer a series of online lectures on the use of Lot Quality Assurance Sampling (LQAS) for monitoring and evaluation purposes, starting in February 2006. The lectures, targeted primarily to implementers of child survival/maternal and child health programs, will be posted on the CORE Group web site for universal access. Each lecture will be followed by a live, online session to answer specific questions on the pre-recorded lectures. Registration for the live sessions is limited; preference will be given to CORE Group members. Registration for the first session opens February 14. For more information, click on link below.

LQAS Series Overview

CORE Group Regional TB Workshop Set for India
CORE's Tuberculosis Working Group will host an Asia/Near East regional workshop on tuberculosis control for PVO/NGO program managers from February 20-24 in Chennai, India. Approximately 30 field staff are expected to attend, and will participate in field visits, technical updates and a program design project. A workshop report will be available on the CORE Group web site in March. For more information, contact tbworkshop@coregroup.org.

PMNCH Briefing Scheduled for February 2
Save the Children's Washington, DC office will host a February 2 informational briefing on the Partnership for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health. Dr. Francisco Songane, the Partnership's Director Designate, will present on vision and activities of the new Partnership. Country support and advocacy working groups will also be addressed. The coming decade for global action on child health: In the January 7, 2006, issue of The Lancet, editor Richard Horton reflects on outcomes of the recent Countdown to 2015 Conference held in London, and offers a four-point strategy for accelerated progress to meet Millennium Development Goals 4 and 5.

Child health in complex emergencies: The January 2006 edition of the Bulletin of the World Health Organization includes this survey analysis of international relief organizations engaged in child health activities in situations of armed conflict, population displacement and/or food insecurity. The authors identify key research needs and recommend that Ministries of Health adopt "evidence-based, locally adapted guidelines" for the care of children in complex emergencies. CORE Polio Partners Project Deputy Director Bill Weiss is a co-author; 11 CORE member organizations were included in the survey.
