Online Learning Session Addresses MNC in Post-Conflict Setting
Mary Ann Mercer, Deputy Director of Health Alliance International, will present a CORE online learning session to discuss maternal/newborn care program challenges HAI has faced in Timor-Leste (East Timor). Timor-Leste became an independent nation in May 2002. Under 24 years of Indonesian rule, the country suffered widespread human rights violations that contributed to the deaths of nearly one-third of the population. Following the vote for independence, the Indonesian military and paramilitary forces destroyed as much as 70-80 percent of the nation's infrastructure, leaving this new country with the daunting task of rebuilding an entire infrastructure, including the health system.
