By partnering with the USAID Bureau for Global Health flagship maternal, neonatal and child health (MNCH) program, CORE Group increases linkages between technical expertise, global leadership and impact at the country level. The Maternal and Child Health Integrated Program, commonly referred to as MCHIP, is designed to accelerate the reduction of maternal, newborn and child mortality in the 30 USAID priority countries facing the highest disease burden. Building on program experience and lessons learned (from ACCESS, BASICS, IMMUNIZATIONbasics, POPPHI, ACCESS-FP, and Child Survival Technical Support Plus [CSTS+]), MCHIP also brings together a partnership of organizations with demonstrated success in reducing maternal, newborn and child mortality rates and malnutrition: Jhpiego, JSI, Save the Children, PATH, JHU/IIP, Broad Branch and PSI. For more information on MCHIP, please visit http://www.mchip.net/.
MCHIP's Private Voluntary Organizations/Non Governmental Organizations (PVO/NGO) support team provide technical assistance in program design, monitoring, implementation and evaluation to grantees supported through USAID's Child Survival and Health Grants Program (CSHGP), the President's Malaria Initiative's Malaria Communities Program (MCP) and other nongovernmental organizations participating in USAID Mission supported initiatives. With a focus on equity and sustainability, the PVO/NGO Support Team offers expertise in monitoring and evaluation, maternal and child health and infectious disease interventions, organizational development, and health information systems. For more information on PVO/NGO support, please visit www.mchipngo.net.
Through this partnership, CORE Group opens up MCHIP access to an expanded base of community expertise and experiences as well as access to community health practitioners. CORE Group serves as a program learning mechanism to provide innovative ideas and practitioner experiences to MCHIP strategy and product deliberations, as well as a vehicle for rapid action-oriented diffusion of lessons learned, tools and new opportunities to increase positive health impact. CORE Group serves as a catalyst for establishing strategic partnerships and inspiring effective practice across a wide variety of organizations.
CORE Group participation in and contribution to MCHIP activities are intended to expand MCHIP’s focus on improving learning related to integration of health care delivery at the community level, and to increase the diffusion of that learning both within MCHIP country programs and across the wide array of member organizations and others that participate in the CORE Group Network. The first year of an established agreement was productive and the continuation of the partnership was recommended in the MCHIP Mid-Term Evaluation.
