This year, the TB Working Group collaborated with the HIV Working Group, resulting in a full day state-of-the-art TB/HIV seminar, with presentations and attendance of over 60 people representing dozens of NGOS, donors, and universities. More information>>
The Working Group also shared technical information from the field. Martha Benezet of MCDI joined the CORE Community online from South Africa to discuss MCDI's innovative and effective Facility-Patient Liaison program. CORE Group hosted a booth at the annual Union Conference, to promote quality in community-based TB programming. The TB Working Group also hosted technical sessions at the CORE Group Spring and Fall Meetings, participated in other TB forums and events.
2008
In 2008, the TB Working Group unveiled two publications that contribute to the knowledge base of how community-based strategies can be integrated into TB prevention and control activities:
- The Expansion of Community-Based Tuberculosis Programming: Critical Program Design Issues for New Partners --outlines nine project-design considerations for those seeking to integrate TB activities into existing community based activities.
- Partnering with Grandmothers and Healers to Eliminate the "Disease of Dust" in Senegal: A Case Study in Community-Based Tuberculosis Control --outlines CORE member Christian Children's Fund activities in Senegal to integrate TB prevention into existing community activities.
The TB working group launched an Elluminate series based on the nine lessons learned from the publication The Expansion of Community-Based Tuberculosis Programming. Chapters covered in 2008 include:
- Challenge 1, Safety First: Prevent Infection of NGO Staff, Volunteers and Others
- Challenge 6: Work with Marginalized Populations
- Challenge 4: Link TB and HIV/AIDS Programs
