Using Monitoring and Evaluation to Catalyze Networks
Joe Valadez, FANTA; Allan Hruska, NicaSalud

The principal objective was to for participants to hear and discuss practical advice and lessons learned on developing a common monitoring and evaluation system among several NGOs to demonstrate impact and scale of collaborative PVO programming. NicaSalud was used as a case study. This paper addresses a UN mission’s conclusion about impediments to disaster response that is relevant to many disasters: (1) lack of reliable and timely information adversely affected coordination within affected countries, (2) that poor understanding of monitoring techniques is an underlying reason for this, (3) the role of communities is seldom defined.
