IMCI Working Group
Vision: The IMCI Working Group supports the development, documentation and advocacy of strong, truly integrated program approaches that maximize community-based child health impact.
2008 Working Group Highlights
In 2008, the IMCI Working Group continued the development of Community Case Management Essentials: A Guide for Program Managers. In August 2008, CORE Group participated in the Madagascar CCM Review and Inter-Country Exchange meeting hosted by BASICS, in which specific chapters of the CCM Essentials guide were reviewed.
The Guide is expected to be finalized in the spring of 2009.
The beta version of the document is available on the CORE website for use and review. Led by a steering committee from CORE Group, Save the Children, and USAID/BASICS, the guide fills a gap in operational guidance for community-based treatment of major infectious causes of child mortality in low- and middle-income countries, including malaria, pneumonia, and diarrheal disease.
Several technical experts contributed detailed guidance on the design, implementation and evaluation of the Guide, which consists of 15 chapters and represents the experience of multiple organizations and individuals using CCM in different contexts.
The IMCI Working Group also hosted several technical updates over the last year on topics including: Community Case Management: Research to Reality; Community Health Worker Motivation Strategies: To Pay or Not to Pay; Community Approaches to Child Health, and Breaking the Policy Barrier.
