Malaria Working Group
Vision: The Malaria Working Group supports existing national collaborative partnerships and promotes new partnerships in which NGOs can actively be engaged in national level policy formation and innovative programming to scale up malaria prevention and control.
2007 Working Group Highlights
The Malaria WG continues to support the PVO Representative in the Roll Back Malaria (RBM) Partnership Board, and share experiences from the VOICES advocacy project from Mali and Kenya to their Advocacy Reference Group. Additional highlights from this year include:
- Implementation of VOICES activities in Kenya and Mali, including the training of journalists and NGOs in Malaria advocacy.
- Successful completion of PMI Tanzania activities. Through subgrants to PSI, Worldvision and Ifakara Health Research Centre, CORE Group procured 300,000 insecticide treatment kits to make ITNs longer lasting, trained over 6,000 reproductive health clinic staff in the Tanzania National Voucher Scheme (TNVS), and conducted evaluation activities for the TNVS.
- The Malaria working group supported MACIS, the Malaria and Childhood Illness NGO Secretariat, which has used information gathered through surveys and direct contact with partners to establish an NGO Malaria Information System for Tanzania. This dynamic information-sharing platform allows partners to click on a map and access information on NGO malaria activity by district. The system will enhance dissemination of information among NGO partners and the Ministry of Health, an important step towards better-informed, more effective coordination.
